How did you get to this point? Have you accomplished what you expected? How connected are you with the important people in your life? And where do you go from here? By examining your life you augment your ability to consciously choose your actions, avoiding potential problems and increasing your capacity for success and happiness. Counseling is an effective method of self-reflection.
I specialize in online (telepresence) counseling and personal consulting to help you assess your personal and professional functioning, clarify your goals, and strengthen the social and emotional skills that will allow you to meet your goals, as well as overcome current and future obstacles.
I strive to make consulting with me convenient and accessible so I am available to meet by video chat, phone, text, instant message, or email, as well as in person at my office in Portland, Oregon. This allows me to work with people from around the world, professionals who travel frequently and cannot otherwise be available for regular meetings, or people who just prefer to communicate from their phone or computer. I also endeavour to incorporate technological advancements with cutting edge psychology practice to continually improve the positive outcomes and user experiences for clients.
I work with LGBTQ clients, and I see individuals, couples, or multiple members of alternative relationships. I focus on helping my clients attain goals that improve insight and increase happiness, as well as addressing issues that impair healthy relationships, including communication, intimacy, power dynamics, attachment, anger, depression, anxiety, and trauma.
I customize my approach for each client, though my practice philosophy draws principally from humanistic therapy, dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), emotion-focused therapy (EFT), and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).
The counseling process can be arduous, requiring candid self-reflection and personal risk-taking, so my ideal clients are those who are willing to accept such a challenge. I predominately work with expatriates from Canada and the US, as well as technology professionals, clinicians, engineers, designers, executives, and other professionals, but I am available to anyone who seeks positive change.
I have a masters in counseling psychology from Lewis & Clark College, a bachelors in psychology from the University of Toronto.
I contribute to the scientific progress of psychology by research, technological development, and literary review. My current research focuses on the revolutionary application of video games to treating posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and traumatic brain injuries (TBIs). My applied psychology projects include the development and validation of psychometric instruments on mobile devices for improving diagnosis and outcomes measures. I also consult innovative biotech startups on human-computer interaction and review manuscript submissions for prestigious psychology journals.
